ENCENS Chembur

ENCENS Chembur

Does any Mumbai neighbourhood have a perfume named after it? Yes! No, it’s not the tony Cuffe Parade area of South Mumbai, or cool Bandra, or plush Worli. It’s our very own Chembur! Chembur is the only suburb in Mumbai that has the distinction of having a perfume named after it! ‘Chembur’ by Byredo is a spicy, unisex amber fragrance that was launched in 2008. Swedish perfumer Ben Gorham has created ‘Encens Chembur’ under his niche label, Byredo, which was established in Stockholm in 2006. In addition to designer colognes and perfumes, the company currently offers luxury home fragrances, body care products and accessories. Gorham’s passion for fragrance and its power to conjure up memories of other places and times began after a trip to his Indian mother’s hometown, Chembur, where he encountered a rich tableau of incense and spice aromas. He collaborated with master perfumers Olivia Giacobetti and Jerome Epinette to create ‘Encens Chembur,’ which  contains notes of lemon, nutmeg, ginger and, interestingly, temple incense The fragrance is available in 50 ml and 100 ml bottles, that retail for $150 and $230 approximately.
